Kochi: On the day of formation of the state, here is a gift from Mathrubhumi, the `Mathrubhumi SMS channel’, through which the mobile phone holders will get free news service. The news will reach in mobiles as SMS alert. Actor Mammooty inaugurated the service here on Friday.

In mobiles with GPRS facility, it will get the full text of news and pictures through the Internet link along with the SMS. It is for the first time that such a service is being implemented in the state.

For availing the service type `starnetnews‘ and SMS to the number 09870807070. The only cost for the subscriber is the charge for sending SMS. The service will be available to all mobile service providers in the country.

The SMS news channel has been functioning in co-operation with Google.co.in.
